Computer Center

Introduction

The Department/Center was started in the year 2012, with an aim to impart Computer Education to the students and youth of the area. In the same year the subject Computer Science and Applications was introduced as a subsidiary subject at Higher Secondary Level for both Arts and Commerce stream. Apart from +2 level, the faculty of the Department/Center collaboratively involving in teaching the subject Information Technology in Business (ITB) for the B. Com Student of the Department of Commerce.

Moreover, the Department conducts free training on Basic Computer Operation and Skill Base Education/Add-on courses in Computer Applications for students and youth of the Jaintia Hills. Thus, for proper implementation of ICT classrooms, the department also conducts Trainings Programmes on the used of Computer, ICT technology and tools for both Teaching and Non-Teaching faculty of our College.

And with the initiative of the Principal(Dr. P. Nongtdu) the department/center initially developed the College website from the ground using simple and powerful web technology language like HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Apart from performing academic duties in teaching, the faculty also take responsibility as in-charge/member of some internal committees in the College. The faculty member is also involved in attending FDP Programmes, Seminar, Workshop, Festival conducted by the College and the affiliating university. The faculty also participate in various extracurricular activities and other learning programmes.

Computing Facilities:

The Computer Center of the College is equipping with Computing facilities, well furnished Computing furniture fitting around 45 Desktop Computers. The laboratory is also equipped with related devices for networking: such as the Internet Facilities with Broadband connection for the PCs and Wi-Fi connection services for portable devices. Teaching tools like Smart Class, Projectors and whiteboard are in-placed installed for ease of teaching-learning and use of students and trainees.

Activities:

Teaching – Learning process is delivered through conceptual lectures, practical-base, group-work, group discussions, assignment, guided reading, seminars, used of ICT classrooms, discussion of previous year question papers, project works and use of media technology. etc. with considerable attention given to practical-base activities to make learning simple and easy for the students to understand. To evaluate the understanding of students and trainees about the course taught in class, the students were test with oral-query during class session, periodical topic-based assignment. At the completion of the each course/subject evaluation through Practical Session and Examination were conducted.

Conducted 6 (Six) Days Computer Literacy Program for Non Teaching Staff on administrative use of computer devices form 7th -12 August 2018.

Programme attended and organized by the Computer Department/Center:

  1. Shri. Niphri Rymbai participated at Science Exhibition conducted by Ieng Swer Memorial Secondary School, Dkhiah West , East Jaintia Hills, Meghlaya as Resource Person (Judge) on 12th October 2018.
  2. Shri. Niphri Rymbai attended Faculty Development Programme (FDP) at Orchid Inn, Thadlaskein, Jowai on the 13th June 2018.

Achievements:

The Department of Computer with the support of RUSA, Meghalaya has trained around 247 students in Computer Application subject, Certificate and Diploma Courses and 214 students (86. 63 %) completed the course during the academic sessions of 2017-18 and 2018-19.
