Introduction
The Department was started in the year 2012, with an aim to impart Computer/IT education and digital literacy to the students of the College and youth of Jaintia Hills. In the same year the subject Computer Science and Applications (now Computer Science) was introduced as a subsidiary subject at Higher Secondary Level for both Arts and Commerce stream. Apart from teaching at +2 level, the faculty of the department also involved in teaching Computer Applications related subject for the Undergraduate students of the College.
Computing Facilities:
The Computer Center of the College is equipping with well furnished Computing furniture and 40 Desktop Computers. The laboratory is equipped with Network devices for Internet Facilities, LAN with Wi-Fi enabled connection service for portable devices. Teaching tools like Projectors, whiteboard and smartboard are in-placed for ease of teaching-learning and use of students and trainees.

Activities:
The Center conducts the following Skill Development course in Computer Applications with introduction to AI (Artificial Intelligence):

Apart from the above mention courses the Center also conducts free digital literacy training on Basic Computer Operation for the 1st Semester students of both UG and PG to get themselves equipped with basic computer usage and file handling skills, and for proper implementation of ICT classrooms, the department conducts training programmes on the used of Computer, ICT tools for both teaching and non-teaching faculty of the College.
Teaching – Learning process is delivered through conceptual lectures, practical, problem solving, presentation, used of ICT classrooms, group discussions, presentation and speech by student, discussion of previous year question papers, assignment, project work, use of media technology, etc. with considerable attention given to practical-base activities to make learning simple and easy for the students to understand. To assess and evaluate the understanding of students and trainees about the course taught in class, the students were test with oral-query during class session, periodical topic-based test assignment. At the completion of the each course evaluation through Practical Session and Examination were conducted.
Programme organised/attended by the Center:
- Conducted 5 (Five) Days Free Hands-on Training Programme in Basic Computer Operation for Post Graduate students from 24th – 28th March 2025.
- Conduct 5 (Five) Days Training Programme in Basic Computer Operation for B. A & B. Com 1st Semester student from 29th August to 2nd September 2022.
Other Activities:
Furthermore with the initiative of the Principal(Dr. P. Nongtdu) the center initially developed the College website from scratch by using web technology and regularly help in updating and maintaining the site along side with the present developer. The faculties of the department also take responsibility as in-charge/member of some committees in the College and also participate in FDP Programmes, Seminar, Workshop, Festivals conducted by the College, the affiliating University, and also in various extracurricular activities.
Achievements:
- During the Sessions 2017-18 and 2018-19 with the support of RUSA, Meghalaya the Center has trained around 247 students while 214 students (86. 63 %) completed the course.
