Red Ribbon Club

The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) is an initiative of the Government of India established in educational institutions to create awareness among students and youth about HIV/AIDS prevention, healthy lifestyles, and voluntary blood donation. The Club aims to provide accurate information on HIV/AIDS, promote safe and responsible behaviour and encourage young people to become active participants and change agents in HIV/AIDS prevention and control programmes.

The RRC functions as a voluntary on-campus intervention programme for students. Members of the Club are not assigned a fixed set of duties; however, they are encouraged to gain knowledge about HIV/AIDS, understand the available services from testing to treatment, participate in life skill development programmes, share awareness among their peers and conduct educational campaigns related to HIV/AIDS and other health-related issues. The Club is constituted under the chairmanship of the Principal with student members and faculty coordinators.

The RRC of the college regularly organizes awareness programmes and activities in collaboration with the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS), Shillong, Khliehriat Civil Hospital, the District Administration and Non-Governmental Organizations working in the field of HIV/AIDS and public health. The major activities include the Red Ribbon Youth Festival, blood donation awareness campaigns, drug abuse prevention programmes, district-level quiz competitions, rallies, and other health awareness initiatives.
